amica homeowners insurance

When it comes to evaluating home insurance from the top companies that we feel will best serve our clients and prospective clients, we have found over time that Amica Mutual can easily become one of our go-to carriers.

Amica homeowners insurance has become very popular with U.S. homeowners because of the product’s affordable and competitive rates combined with outstanding customer service and claims service. About Amica Mutual Insurance Company

Amica logo

We believe that many people are surprised when they learn that Amica Mutual was founded almost 113 years ago, back in 1907, and is the oldest mutual insurance company for car insurance in the United States.

Unlike many of its competitors, Amica does business directly with the consumer rather than relying on distributing its products through independent agencies. Amica has auto insurance, home insurance and life insurance offerings.

Even without the assistance of reputable and committed independent agents, the company has become known for exceptional customer service and the ability to maintain long-term customer relationships.

To service policyholders across the country, Amica relies on 44 well-staffed offices rather than just a few regional offices that in most cases would leave different customers with very different needs disappointed.

Amica’s products are currently available in 49 states including the District of Columbia but do not offer their products in Hawaii.

Amica Mutual’s Financial Stability and Customer Ratings

Whenever you are considering making an insurance purchase, it’s essential that the company you select has the financial ratings and customer satisfaction required to establish a long-term relationship.

After all, all insurance contracts rely on a promise by the parties to the contract. The insurance company promises to pay for a covered claim and the policyholder promises to pay the established premium set by the insurer. In many cases, these promises must be binding over decades so the financial stability of your insurer must be evident.

Here is the evidence provided by Amica:

A.M. Best RatingA+ (Superior)
J.D. Power Rating5 out of 5 stars for overall customer satisfaction
Consumer ReportsScore of 94 (1st among insurance companies)
Better Business BureauA+ (accredited since 1957)

Amica Mutual Insurance Products

Similar to most of the other highly-rated insurance companies, Amica Mutual offers a wide range of insurance products for personal and business risks. This is especially important for qualifying for multi-policy discounts and helps customers minimize the number of insurance companies they must deal with.

Amica Homeowners Insurance Review

Amica Auto Insurance

Like its competitors, Amica offers a standard homeowners insurance policy that is a package of coverages that take care of your home, contents, and personal liability, but Amica expands on the standard homeowners’ policy by offering extended home insurance coverage and yet even more coverage under Amica’s Platinum Choice® coverage.

Here are the coverages available in a standard homeowners’ package:

With Amica Platinum Choice® Homeowners Insurance, the policyholder will enjoy additional protections for more comprehensive coverage:

  • If your home needs major repairs or a rebuild, Platinum Choice provides up to 30% more than the policy limit to make certain you are made whole after a claim.
  • Platinum Choice policyholders are protected up to $5,000 for damage caused by water backup or sump overflow.
  • When you file a claim for stolen credit cards, Amica will reimburse for up to $5,000 of purchases made with the stolen credit card(s).
  • With Platinum Choice coverage, your contents are insured for replacement cost rather than actual cash value which means new for old.
  • Extended coverage on valuable items – certain personal items have special limit coverage which normally falls well short of replacement cost, with Platinum Choice coverage these special limits are extended.
  • Additional Liability Coverage – most homeowners’ liability limits are $100,000 per person or $300,000 per claim. With Platinum Choice, your liability coverage is increased to $300,000 per person and $500,000 per claim.
  • Protection for your Electronics – all electronic devices like laptops, tablets, phones, and smart TVs are covered for damage resulting from water, power surge, and heat warping.
  • Extended coverage for business property is available whether the property is in your home or away from home.

What’s Not covered under Amica Homeowners Insurance

It’s important to note that not every possible risk is covered under your homeowners’ insurance. Most of what’s not covered can be added by endorsement or by purchasing a stand-alone policy specific to the peril. For example, flood damage is not covered under your homeowners’ insurance but you can purchase a policy through the government flood insurance program.

Here’s a list of perils not covered under the HO3 homeowners’ insurance policy:

Power FailureNuclear HazardIntentional Acts

Amica Homeowners Insurance Claim Department

How an insurance company handles a claim can either help or destroy your relationship with an insurance company.

Amica’s claim service is ranked as one of the best in the country. The claim managers and adjusters at Amica Mutual understand that claims can be stressful but it shouldn’t be because of how your insurance company deals with it.

Amica’s claims department is set up so that policyholders and non-policyholders can report a claim by phone or through Amica’s website. Once your claim has been reported and assigned a case number, you can be updated regularly through the website, by telephone, or by email on your claim’s status. You’ll never feel like you’re getting the “run-around.”
